The YMSL Lakes Chapter had the pleasure of completing their ultimate gift benefiting The Gatehouse in Grapevine, TX on November 11th and 12th. The Gatehouse is a supportive living community for women – whether single or with children – leaving a crisis situation to rebuild their lives. Their gift was the transformation of an area around the fishing pond to make it usable and accessible for the mothers and children to take a break together outdoors, enjoy the beauty of the pond, and provide a fishing area to enjoy the favorite American pastime of fishing. Their project included a designated fishing area using decomposed granite, flagstone and boulders. Also, a path from the main building leading to this area was created using flagstone. A storage cabinet was generously donated and their members stocked it with fishing poles and tackle for the children to use. The chapter also built benches for the kids and mothers to sit on while preparing their rods to fish in the fully stocked pond. Finally, shrubs and mulch were added to complete this wonderful project. Their boys and mothers worked tirelessly throughout the weekend hauling, shoveling, and digging to make this a peaceful area for these much deserving families to enjoy.
